01A visitor collection: guides, admission, campaign poster and museum shop objects.

Open to interpretation.

Develop an identity for a contemporary arts institution that can welcome varied audiences and hold very different exhibitions together without overpowering the work.

Who it’s for

Curious first-time visitors, returning members, artists and people who encounter the museum through its publications.

The challenge

A cultural identity must be stable enough to recognise and open enough to change. It also has to move convincingly between a large facade and a small admission ticket.

02The portal symbol and custom wordmark establish the identity.

Use an opening as the organising principle. The A becomes a portal with a detached lintel. That same shape can stand alone, frame an artwork or establish a layout, giving each exhibition room to have its own character.

Why Apert?

Apert suggests an aperture: a space through which something can be seen. The short name gives the wordmark a strong architectural presence.

03The same frame and typographic logic accommodate several expressions.
01

An open letter, a recognisable frame

The A and interrupted E make the wordmark distinctive without adding an illustration. The portal can scale from a pin to a building sign.

02

An institutional base with a seasonal accent

Black and ivory provide continuity. Acid yellow introduces an immediate, public-facing signal for the exhibition campaign.

03

Let the artwork remain the subject

The graphic frame controls hierarchy and crop. It supports images across publications, posters and wayfinding while leaving their meaning open.

04The system reaches the building through signage and a seasonal banner.

A cultural identity concept with a working relationship between typography, publications, merchandise, campaigns and environmental graphics.

A fictional project created with AI and art-directed in the Notable studio. This is a curated concept study, not a client commission. The images illustrate a creative direction; editable identity assets and production preparation are separate steps.
